RISHIKESH, UTTARAKHAND — Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the 6th Convocation ceremony of AIIMS Rishikesh as the Chief Guest, where he praised India’s healthcare achievements and the growing role of modern medical institutions in nation-building.
The ceremony was also attended by Gurmit Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with faculty members, students, and distinguished guests. The event marked an important milestone for graduating medical students who are set to begin their professional journeys in the healthcare sector.
Addressing the gathering, Vice President Radhakrishnan reflected on the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that India’s healthcare infrastructure was put to a serious test during that period. Despite the difficulties, he said, the country not only managed to respond effectively to the crisis at home but also extended support to other nations.
He highlighted that India emerged as a global partner during the pandemic by supplying COVID-19 vaccines to more than 100 countries, demonstrating its commitment to global welfare. He said that this effort reflected the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which emphasises unity and cooperation among nations.
The Vice President noted that India’s response to the pandemic showcased not only its scientific and medical capabilities but also its humanitarian values. He said that such actions have strengthened India’s position on the global stage as a responsible and supportive nation.
Speaking about AIIMS Rishikesh, Radhakrishnan described the institution as one of the finest examples of a modern healthcare and academic centre. He said that it successfully combines clinical excellence, academic strength, research, cultural values, technological innovation, and social commitment.
He emphasised that institutions like AIIMS Rishikesh play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare in India, as they not only provide advanced treatment but also train the next generation of doctors and researchers.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of research and innovation in the medical field, stating that continuous advancements are necessary to address emerging health challenges. He encouraged students and faculty to focus on research that can contribute to improving healthcare outcomes.
