Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at significantly improving connectivity between the National Capital Region and Uttarakhand.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also review the corridor’s wildlife conservation features before offering prayers at the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple near Dehradun.
The project is expected to enhance travel efficiency, support tourism, strengthen regional trade, and promote sustainable infrastructure development.
The 213-kilometre, six-lane, access-controlled Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor has been developed at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore.
Once operational, the corridor will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from more than six hours to around two-and-a-half hours, offering faster and more efficient road connectivity.
The improved highway is expected to benefit commuters, tourists, businesses, and logistics operators traveling between the two regions. The economic corridor incorporates several modern infrastructure components designed to improve traffic flow and road safety.
Key features include:
- 10 interchanges
- Three railway overbridges
- Four major bridges
- Twelve wayside amenities
- Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)
The ATMS will help monitor traffic, improve road safety, and enhance the overall travel experience for commuters. Recognising the ecological importance of the region, the corridor has been designed with dedicated wildlife protection infrastructure to minimise human-animal conflict.
Notable environmental features include:
- A 12-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor, among the longest in Asia.
- Eight dedicated animal passages.
- Two elephant underpasses, each measuring 200 metres.
- A 370-metre tunnel near the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple.
These measures aim to facilitate the safe movement of wildlife while maintaining uninterrupted traffic flow.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will inspect the wildlife corridor and review the conservation measures integrated into the project. The review highlights the government’s emphasis on combining infrastructure development with environmental sustainability, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions.
Following the infrastructure review, the Prime Minister will visit the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple near Dehradun, where he is scheduled to offer prayers. The temple is an important religious site in Uttarakhand and is visited by thousands of devotees throughout the year.
The Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor is expected to contribute significantly to regional development by:
- Improving connectivity between Delhi and Uttarakhand.
- Supporting tourism and pilgrimage travel.
- Enhancing trade and logistics.
- Encouraging investment along the corridor.
- Improving access to economic and commercial hubs.
The project is also expected to strengthen connectivity to Jolly Grant Airport and other important destinations in the region.
