Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Government has announced plans to establish Supraja Centres in all 13 districts of the state to provide Ayurveda-based antenatal care and strengthen maternal and child healthcare services.
The initiative has received ₹1.30 crore in financial assistance from the Central Government, with ₹10 lakh allocated for each proposed centre. The programme aims to promote preventive healthcare during pregnancy while supporting safe and healthy deliveries through AYUSH-based practices.

According to the state government, the programme aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes while encouraging evidence-informed preventive care during pregnancy. Officials said the programme seeks to encourage timely antenatal care and healthy lifestyle practices throughout pregnancy.
Experts associated with the initiative believe that proper nutrition, preventive healthcare, and regular antenatal support may help reduce pregnancy-related complications in selected cases and contribute to healthier maternal outcomes.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen awareness regarding preventive healthcare among expecting mothers. The Supraja Centres form part of Uttarakhand’s broader strategy to expand AYUSH services across the state.
The government is working to increase access to Ayurveda-based healthcare while integrating preventive wellness initiatives into public health services. The initiative aligns with the state’s focus on promoting traditional systems of medicine alongside modern healthcare.
Alongside the Supraja Centres, the government has identified:
- Munikireti
- Balwakot
- Laubanj (Kausani)
for the establishment of new wellness centres.
The project will include private rooms and wellness facilities, with the state planning to invest approximately ₹1 crore. Officials said the initiative supports Uttarakhand’s vision of developing as a hub for yoga, wellness, and health tourism.
The state government has also approved the establishment of AYUSH wings in Government Allopathic Hospitals located in:
- Pauri
- Bageshwar
- Tehri
Each hospital will receive approximately ₹25 lakh in funding.
These units are expected to provide patients with access to Ayurveda and other AYUSH services alongside conventional medical treatment. AYUSH Minister Madan Kaushik said the state government is strengthening Ayurveda hospitals while expanding AYUSH infrastructure across Uttarakhand.
According to the minister, the newly proposed Supraja Centres will provide district-level support for pregnant women through:
