Char Dham Yatra Restarts as Uttarakhand Authorities Strengthen Safety Measures

Date:

Dehradun: The Char Dham Yatra resumed in Uttarakhand on Saturday after being suspended for one day as a precautionary measure due to continuous rainfall and the threat of landslides along the pilgrimage routes.

The temporary suspension was imposed to ensure the safety of pilgrims amid adverse weather conditions. With weather conditions improving and authorities reviewing the situation, the annual pilgrimage has now restarted under enhanced monitoring and coordinated safety arrangements.

Officials said the Char Dham Yatra is being conducted in close coordination with the district administration, Uttarakhand Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other concerned departments.

Authorities are continuously monitoring the pilgrimage routes, especially landslide-prone and vulnerable stretches, to ensure safe movement of devotees.

The administration has deployed teams across key locations to respond quickly to any weather-related disruptions during the pilgrimage.

Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swaroop appealed to pilgrims to strictly follow official instructions throughout their journey.

He advised that if roads are temporarily blocked due to heavy rainfall, landslides, or any other unforeseen circumstances, pilgrims should remain only at designated safe locations or holding areas identified by the administration.

Officials emphasized that travelers should avoid attempting to cross blocked routes until clearance is provided by the authorities.

According to the Garhwal Commissioner, ensuring the safety of pilgrims remains the administration’s highest priority.

All concerned departments have been instructed to:

  • Continuously monitor weather conditions.
  • Keep track of road and pilgrimage route status.
  • Maintain round-the-clock surveillance in vulnerable areas.
  • Coordinate emergency response whenever required.

Authorities have also asked pilgrims to rely only on official updates issued by the administration and avoid unverified information circulating on social media.

With rainfall continuing in several parts of Uttarakhand during the monsoon season, officials have urged devotees to review the latest weather forecasts before beginning their journey.

Pilgrims are encouraged to:

  • Check official weather updates regularly.
  • Follow instructions from local authorities and police personnel.
  • Stay at designated holding areas if travel is temporarily suspended.
  • Carry essential supplies and prepare for weather-related delays.

The reopening of the pilgrimage allows registered devotees to continue their spiritual journey. However, authorities have cautioned that travel schedules may still be affected depending on weather conditions.

Pilgrims should remain prepared for temporary delays and cooperate fully with officials managing the yatra.
